Spring is almost here and many dog owners like to go hiking with their dogs. Having your dog carry it's own drinkable water or if the dog is large enough, carry your jacket when you get too hot would be a help. You can find many backpacks just made for dogs or design and make your own. It doesn't have to look like Swiss Army luggage just something that distributes the weight of the pack on either side of the dog.
